Parking Sensor Installation Troubleshooting Guide

Before contacting us, please review this Troubleshooting Guide to help address the problem as quickly as possible.

Q.  I have just fitted one of your kits and as soon as I engage reverse the system constantly beeps as though there is something behind the vehicle when there clearly is not, what is the problem?

The system is designed to "beep" twice when reverse gear is engaged (and disengaged). The system is performing a self test and also informs the driver that the system is functioning.

The most common problem is when the system constantly beeps, the reasons are:

(1) The sensors are mounted too low to the ground and they are picking up the ground causing the buzzer to constantly sound. The minimum recommended height is 50cm from the ground when mounted on a vertical surface. Fitting the sensors lower than this will cause the problem described. You can test this by listening to the tone, if you have a stage 2 or 3 alarm and the tone changes when you move closer to the sensor then it is likely to be the ground that is being picked up.

If you have problems with the ground being detected then we can exchange your CPU for a low mount version which has a reduced range of approximately 30cm in order to allow the sensors to be mounted as low as 40cm to the ground depending on the angle. Please send back your CPU with a note requesting a low mount version. See the end of this page for our returns address.

(2) Glue can damage the internal workings of a sensor, even plastic glues can cause excessive heat or even melt the sensor. It is not necessary to use glue to mount the sensors and we do not recommend the use of glue for this purpose.

(3) You could have a faulty sensor. Please perform the following sensor test:

(i) Locate the Parking Sensor Control Box (CPU)

(ii) Unplug all the sensors from the CPU, perform a test by switching the ignition on with vehicle in reverse and all the sensors unplugged. If the buzzer remains silent after the start up tone then move onto to step (iii) If the buzzer continuously sounds when there are no sensors plugged in then the buzzer is faulty, if so then report this to us so that we can despatch a replacement.

(iii) Plug each sensor in one at a time and test by walking up to that sensor. If you have a problem with an individual sensor then the buzzer will continuously sound, if so then move onto step (iv).

(iv) Remove the sensor that is malfunctioning from the bumper (leaving it plugged in) and hold it away from the vehicle and retest the sensor when it is out of the hole. If the buzzer remains silent after the start up tone then it appears that the hole is too small for the sensor and needs to be enlarged, the increased pressure on the sides of the sensors causes the sensors to short out and the result is a constant beeping. The sensors must be removed and the holes made slightly larger. If the sensor is still malfunctioning after it has been removed from the bumper then it sounds like a faulty sensor. Please report this to us so that we can despatch a replacement.

Q.  I have fitted one of your kits to my car  and the buzzer emits a "beep" about every 30 seconds while I am driving, what is the problem?

The lighting systems on some cars with Bulb failure systems (especially BMW, some Citroens & Vauxhall/Opel) will perform a continuity check on the bulbs every few seconds, there is a small amount of power passed to the reverse light circuit. You will need to fit a Single By-Pass Relay, this protects the electrical system on vehicles with a bulb failure monitor, CANBUS or multiplexed wiring. Failure to wire up the kit via a relay will result in a faint "beep" being emitted from the parking sensor kit every 30 seconds. A single bypass relay is available to order from our accessories section. Click here for accessories...

Q. I have just received my digital display kit but the buzzer appears to be missing?

The sound on all digital display models is emitted from the digital display unit and a separate buzzer is not required.

Q.  I have fitted one of your Parking Sensor Kits with Digital Display, the digital display is showing the correct distance but there is no sound?

There is a slider switch on the display that it marked 0-1-2, if it is set on 0 (Off) then the sound is switched off. Please can you try switching this on.

 Q.  The instructions state that the lowest I should mount the sensors is 50cm from the ground. The bumper on my car does not permit this, what can I do?

It is possible to mount the sensors lower by positioning them on an area of the bumper where the curvature of the bumper forces the sensors to face away from the ground. We recommend that you perform a blue tack test, that is; when you receive the sensors unpack the sensors and temporarily fix them at the desired height and angle with blue tack then connect the Parking Sensor CPU to a power supply and test by walking up and down behind the vehicle. When you are satisfied that the sensors work correctly where they are located then go ahead and fit them permanently.

 Q.  My car has an Automatic gearbox and every time I pass from Park to Drive (via Reverse) I get an annoying beep, what can be done to prevent this?

The problem is caused because the reverse lights are flashing on for a short time when you shift through the gears. You need to fit Parking Sensor Power Delay for Automatic Gearboxes 1SD, which delays the power sent to the Parking Sensor kit for 1 second after engaging reverse gear. This device is designed to address an annoying problem where a short beep is emitted from the Parking Sensor kit when shifting from Park to Drive. A Parking Sensor Power Delay for Automatic Gearboxes (Part number 1SD)is available to order from our accessories section. Click here for accessories...

 Q.  My car has a towbar which I use to tow a trailer/caravan. When I reverse with the trailer/caravan attached the sensors are constantly beeping, what can be done to prevent this?

The problem is caused because the sensors are detecting the trailer/caravan that you are towing. You could fit an additional Round Rocker switch to manually deactivate the Reverse Parking when towing. Suitable Round Rocker switches are available to order from our accessories section. Click here for accessories...

Q.  Do I have to remove and send back the Sensors when I am sure it is only the CPU and/or buzzer unit that is faulty?

Send us the components that you think are at fault. We will exchange just those parts.  Please ensure you include your original Order or Invoice number and a description of the fault.

Q.  What do I do if I have a faulty Sensor Kit?

If you are sure you know which component is at fault then you do not need to contact us first. Send the faulty unit back to us by recorded delivery for an immediate exchange. Please ensure you include your original Order or Invoice number and a description of the fault:
